Cigarette lighters in cars have been known to cause problems and even drain car batteries. The reason for this is that the cigarette lighter is usually placed close to other electrical components in the car such as the stereo or navigation system. If there is a problem with these electrical components it can cause a spike in the electrical current which can then drain the battery.
There are a few things that you can do to prevent this from happening. First make sure that your cigarette lighter is not loose. If it is then it could be making contact with other electrical components and causing a short. Second if you notice that your car battery is draining faster than usual check the cigarette lighter to see if it is hot. If it is then there could be a problem with the wiring. Finally if your car has a cigarette lighter that is not being used you should unplug it to prevent it from draining the battery.
If your car battery does end up dying because of the cigarette lighter you can usually jump start it by using another car with a working battery. Just make sure that you disconnect the cigarette lighter before you jump start the car.
