Can I put gasoline in my car while it is running?
This is a question that we get asked often and unfortunately there is no easy answer. We would not recommend putting gasoline in your car while it is running and here is why.
First and foremost it is a fire hazard. If the process of adding gasoline to your car while it is running sparks it could easily ignite the gasoline and cause a fire. This is especially true if the gasoline is near any other source of heat or flame such as the car’s engine.
Secondly it can damage your car’s engine. Gasoline is a volatile substance and adding it to your car while the engine is running can cause it to misfire and run less efficiently. Over time this can damage the engine and decrease its lifespan.
So while we understand that you may be in a hurry and simply trying to save time we would not recommend adding gasoline to your car while it is running. It is simply too dangerous and can cause damage to your car. If you need to add gasoline to your car we recommend doing so when it is turned off and cooled down.
