Volkswagen Group of America Inc. (VWoA) is an American subsidiary of the German automotive concern Volkswagen Group. Its headquarters are in Auburn Hills Michigan. In May 2007 Volkswagen AG announced that it would establish its North American regional headquarters in Herndon Virginia and relocate its U.S. sales and marketing operations from Auburn Hills to Virginia. The move was completed in early 2008.[3]

In October 2010 Volkswagen AG announced it was consolidating its U.S. operations by relocating the sales and marketing departments of Volkswagen and Audi to a new location in Herndon Virginia. The move was designed to help Volkswagen AG achieve its goal of becoming the world’s largest automaker by 2018 with annual sales of 10 million vehicles.[4]

In November 2018 Volkswagen Group of America announced it was moving its headquarters back to Auburn Hills Michigan from Herndon Virginia as part of a global reorganization of the company in the wake of the diesel emissions scandal. The move will result in the loss of 150 jobs in Virginia.[7]

In May 2019 Volkswagen AG announced it was consolidating its U.S. operations by closing its office in Herndon Virginia and relocating its staff to Auburn Hills Michigan and Chattanooga Tennessee.
