When you get a car loan the lender will require that you have a cosigner for the loan. This cosigner agrees to be responsible for the loan if you default on the payments. The cosigner does not have to be on the title of the car. However if the cosigner is not on the title then they will not have any ownership rights to the car. The cosigner will only be responsible for the loan payments.
