If you’re a New York driver you know that getting your car inspected is a yearly (or bi-yearly depending on your vehicle) necessity. But how much does a car inspection cost in NY?

According to DMV.org “the average cost of a car inspection in New York is $21.50.” However this cost can vary depending on the county in which you live. For example in Albany County the cost is $30 while in Erie County it’s only $10.

There are a few things that you need to bring with you when you go to get your car inspected including:

-Your registration

-Your proof of insurance

-Your driver’s license

If you don’t have all of these things you won’t be able to get your car inspected.

Once you’re at the inspection station the inspector will check a number of things on your car including the brakes lights exhaust system and more. The inspection takes about 20 minutes and if everything passes you’ll get a sticker to put on your windshield that’s good for one year.

If something doesn’t pass the inspection you’ll need to get it fixed and then bring the car back for a re-inspection. There is no additional fee for a re-inspection.

So how much does a car inspection cost in NY? The average cost is $21.50 but it can vary depending on where you live. Make sure you have all of the required documentation with you and the inspection should take no more than 20 minutes.
