The Batmobile is one of the most iconic and treasured cars in pop culture. So when it was announced that the Batmobile for the upcoming 2022 movie would be designed by legendary car designer Chip Foose fans were understandably excited.
Foose is no stranger to designing cars for movies having previously worked on the Batmobile for Batman Forever as well as the vehicles for the films Gone in 60 Seconds and Herbie: Fully Loaded. But when it came to designing the Batmobile for the upcoming film he faced a unique challenge.
“The biggest thing was just making sure that the Batmobile still had the DNA of the Batmobile” Foose said in an interview with Hot Rod Network. “It’s such an iconic vehicle and there are so many different versions of it. I wanted to make sure that we kept all the elements that people loved about it.”
The result is a Batmobile that is both sleek and aggressive while still retaining the classic look that fans know and love. Foose also insisted on making sure that the car was functional rather than just a prop.
“I wanted to make sure it was a real car that could be driven” he said. “I didn’t want it to be one of those movie cars where it looks great but then you get it on set and it doesn’t work. So we put a lot of engineering into it.”
The Batmobile is set to make its debut in the upcoming film The Batman which is currently scheduled to be released in March of 2022.
